Admissions

School Admissions

Admissions to the school are dealt with by Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) as the admissions authority. Please click here to view the Admissions Arrangements for our school for 2025/26.

Parents can apply for their child's school place using CBC's online application system or by completing a paper application form (available from the School Admissions team by calling 0300 300 8039 or emailing admissions@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk).

Applications must be received by 15th January 2025 for children due to start school in September 2025. After this date they will be deemed as late applications.

Parents have the right to appeal if they are not offered a place at their preferred school. For further information about school admission appeals, please click here.

Arrangements for the admission of pupils with disabilities

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 defines a disabled person as one who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Most children with special needs will not be disabled within the meaning of the Act.

The admission of pupils with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non-disabled pupils. Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility. It is the school governors’ policy to accommodate pupils with disabilities should parents wish their child to attend the school. Steps are taken to prevent any pupils being treated less favourably than other pupils. In practice we ensure that classroom and extra-curricular activities encourage the participation of all pupils, including those categorised as having special educational needs. Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all pupils. The school strives to ensure that whatever the abilities and needs of members of the school community, everyone is equally valued and treats one another with respect under the Equality Act 2010.

Delayed and deferred admissions

If you are considering a delayed or deferred entry to Reception until your child reaches compulsory school age, please arrange an appointment with the headteacher to discuss this further. The headteacher will explain the request process with your prior to taking your request to the governing body.

In year admissions

In-year applications are also dealt with by Central Bedfordshire Council. For further information about applying for a school place during the academic year, please click here.

Pre-School Admissions

We offer prospective parents the chance to see our pre-school in action before making an application. To arrange a visit, please contact the school office on 01525 713625 or email office@templefield-lower.co.uk.

Parents can register interest in their child attending pre-school at any point by filling in an application form which is available below. This form will be held by the school office until your child is ready to start. We will contact you in the half-term before they are due to start to confirm which sessions they will attend.

If there are more applications to pre-school than places available, the admissions criteria will be applied. For more information, please see the Pre-School Admissions Policy.

Please note that a place at our pre-school does not guarantee children a place in Reception at the school, nor does it give priority over other children who have not attended our pre-school. Applications for a school place must be made in the usual way through School Admissions at Central Bedfordshire Council.
