Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At Templefield Lower School, we ensure that our children receive a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that is rich in knowledge, skills and memorable experiences. We believe that learning is lifelong and that the skills and attitudes we instil in the early stages of our children's lives should stand them in good stead for the future. We place high importance on the future role of our children in society and aim to develop their social awareness as global citizens.

The key principles behind the design of our curriculum are for our children to:

  • Be confident, independent and resilient learners; displaying a thirst for learning.
  • Be kind; showing empathy and compassion whilst valuing diversity.
  • Achieve academically across the whole curriculum, meeting at least the national expectations by the end of their primary education.
  • Be culturally knowledgeable about our country and our world.
  • Have aspirations for the future and know that these can be reached through hard work and determination.
  • Be well prepared for the next stage of their education.

SEND and Accessibility Statement

We aim to be an inclusive school which responds successfully to the needs of the diverse community we serve. We work closely with pupils, families and relevant outside agencies to ensure that potential barriers to learning are reduced and make reasonable adjustments to enable all children to access the curriculum so they can learn, achieve and participate fully in school life. By offering a broad and balanced curriculum, setting high expectations and taking into account pupils' varied life experiences and needs we aspire that all pupils will achieve their full potential and excel in areas of strength.

Curriculum Delivery

Our curriculum  takes account of the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, the Primary National Curriculum, and the Bedfordshire and Luton Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. Progression of knowledge, skills and understanding is carefully planned to ensure that children’s learning builds effectively over time.

We aim to deliver out curriculum through:

  • Creative, fun and memorable learning experiences which provide the children with opportunities that they may have not have experienced before.
  • A strong nurturing environment that enables all children to feel successful and safe to take risks.
  • Putting the emotional and mental well-being at the heart of all that we do.
  • Utilising opportunities for outdoor learning and a wide range of trips and curricular activities.
  • Establishing cross-curricular links, where possible, and giving the children opportunities to build on prior learning.
  • Ensuring that the curriculum is accessible to all children and that successes are celebrated in all curriculum areas.
  • Special enrichment days and weeks for the whole school and individual classes.
  • Being flexible to enable learning to be guided by a child's interests.
