Most school websites now have some kind of ‘Learning Platform’, which is a kind of virtual learning environment. There are a number of secure servers that host these sites but, in common with most Bedfordshire schools, Templefield has teamed up with ‘NetMedia’ to provide our staff, families, and governors with this service.
A ‘NetMedia’ Learning Platform is:
-
a secure web-based site for Templefield users (in contrast to the school website which is web wide)
- a place where different access rights allow access to different electronic information and applications
- a site which can be accessed from any PC*
- a site which is populated by Templefield users (e.g. teachers, pupils, governors etc)
The potential benefits for our children are that they will:
-
be directed to specific web based or electronic resources
- have access to sites (such as ‘Britannica’) at home as well as at school
- have email facilities (for older children) within the school site, where appropriate
- be given homework both on paper and/or electronically
- practice ICT learning outside of ICT lessons in school
- be given an on-line portfolio of their own work
The opportunities it could give to our school are:
- Access for all children within the school
- Access for all staff to share planning and assessment electronically
- Access for governors to administer meetings, e-discussions and policies
- Access for the PTA to communicate and document electronically outside of meetings
*Note: minimum PC requirements detailed from NetMedia are:
